Tell MA State Officials: The Clean Heat Standard (CHS) Shouldn’t Penalize Propane & Bioheat!

The MA Clean Heat Standard is a climate policy from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) to help reduce emissions from residential, commercial, and industrial heating. It will heavily penalize propane and heating oil companies without taking into account the benefits of Bioheat or Propane as clean energy sources.

The MA Clean Heat Standard is a regulation proposed by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), aimed to lower emissions of residential, commercial, and industrial heating by incentivizing electrification and "taxing" propane, home heating oil, and bio-blends. This will greatly impact any resident in Massachusetts who currently uses any of these fuel sources and could force many small and local fuel providers out of the marketplace.

If the Clean Heat Standard is put into effect, propane and heating oil prices will increase, making it harder for residents of Massachusetts to heat their homes during the winter properly. We've previously discussed the negative aspects of electrification and the benefits of bioheat as a clean heating source for your home, which can be found here.

Stopping this regulation is about ensuring that you have the choice of how to heat your home, whether it be propane, home heating oil/bioheat, or through electrification. This regulation from the MassDEP will limit those choices. The best way to ensure that this doesn't get implemented is to let your elected officials hear your concerns. Please click on the following link to let them know that you want a choice when it comes to heating your home and want propane and home heating oil/bioheat removed as part of Clean Heat Standard.
